Duties and Responsibilities
The Safety-Service Director shall be appointed by the Mayor solely on the basis of executive and administrative qualifications in the profession of public management, as judged by the adequacy of their technical training and successful experience in public, commercial, or industrial administration.
The Safety-Service Director shall be responsible for the general supervision and proper operation of the Departments of Police, Fire, Personnel, Streets, Parks, Pools, and Cemeteries. The Director shall serve as purchasing agent for all departments under their supervision or control, and shall be a member of the Board of Control, as provided for in Section 6.03 of the Charter.
