Mayor's Office

A Message From the Office of Mayor Dave Handwerk:

On behalf of the Mayor’s Office, thank you for visiting the City of Orrville online! As our residents already know, our community is a great place to live or relocate your business. With a population of almost 9,000, Orrville, Ohio, provides a small town atmosphere with big city benefits.

We’re blessed with a great variety of industries that are making their mark in our community, including The J.M. Smucker Company, the Schantz Organ Company, SmithFoods Inc., Quality Castings Company, Venture Products, and many more — and our newly developed industrial parks are providing even more opportunities for economic development.

Redevelopment has led to some great upgrades to the store fronts in our downtown area, where you can shop, catch up with friends, or snag a quick cup of coffee.

Finally, our city’s park system continues to be a great source of pride to our community, with walking and bicycle trails, baseball fields, picnic areas, a public swimming pool, and more. This is also where our fire department hosts its annual 4th of July fireworks display, which has become one of Ohio’s top community events.

It is my privilege and pleasure to serve as your mayor. I hope you enjoy the opportunity to get involved with our community. Feel free to stop by anytime — my door is always open.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Mayor

The Mayor is elected to a four-year term. Mayoral duties, as set forth by Article III of the Charter, are to exercise supervision and control of all departments and divisions of the City of Orrville and to see that all laws, ordinances and resolutions are faithfully obeyed and enforced. The Mayor is the recognized official and ceremonial head of the City of Orrville government. The Mayor is required to attend Council meetings, but has no vote. However, the Mayor does have veto power over every ordinance and resolution passed by the Orville City Council. The President of Council is designated by the City Charter to serve as acting mayor during such a period when the Mayor is absent from the City or is otherwise not accessible or temporarily unable to perform their duties.
