A Message From the Office of Mayor Dave Handwerk:
Thank you for visiting our City of Orrville webpage. Orrville is a city of nearly 9,000 residents and is a great place to live, raise a family, work and enjoy our many recreational opportunities.
Orr Park is the place for plenty of softball and baseball games, Orr pool, our new splash park, a host of fun toys to play on, pickleball courts, dog park, summer concerts, and coming the summer of 2023 our new skate park.
Orr Park is also home to the Orrville Firefighters 4th of July week-long celebration. Softball tournaments, carnival and one of the best fireworks displays in all of Ohio.
We are blessed with a very diversified host of industry and businesses. The J.M. Smucker Company, Smith Foods, Inc., Schantz Organ Company, Quality Castings Company, Venture Products/TORO, Jarrett Logistics and many more, all contribute to the uniqueness of Orrville.
Added to all this, is a great Orrville City School system, located right beside Orr park, on the school campus.
It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve as Mayor of my hometown these past sixteen years. I hope you enjoy the opportunity to become involved with our community. Feel free to stop by anytime – my door is always open.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Mayor
The Mayor is elected to a four-year term. Mayoral duties, as set forth by Article III of the Charter, are to exercise supervision and control of all departments and divisions of the City of Orrville and to see that all laws, ordinances and resolutions are faithfully obeyed and enforced. The Mayor is the recognized official and ceremonial head of the City of Orrville government. The Mayor is required to attend Council meetings, but has no vote. However, the Mayor does have veto power over every ordinance and resolution passed by the Orville City Council. The President of Council is designated by the City Charter to serve as acting mayor during such a period when the Mayor is absent from the City or is otherwise not accessible or temporarily unable to perform their duties.
