Duties and Responsibilities of the Mayor

The Mayor is elected to a four-year term. Mayoral duties, as set forth by Article III of the Charter, are to exercise supervision and control of all departments and divisions of the City of Orrville and to see that all laws, ordinances and resolutions are faithfully obeyed and enforced. The Mayor is the recognized official and ceremonial head of the City of Orrville government. The Mayor is required to attend Council meetings, but has no vote. However, the Mayor does have veto power over every ordinance and resolution passed by the Orville City Council. The President of Council is designated by the City Charter to serve as acting mayor during such a period when the Mayor is absent from the City or is otherwise not accessible or temporarily unable to perform their duties.
