A Message from the Office of Mayor Dave Handwerk:

Thank you for looking at the City of Orrville's web page.  If you already live in Orrville, congratulations, you have made a wise choice!  If you are looking for a place to live or locate your business or industry, please take a good look at Orrville, Ohio.

At nearly 9,000 in population, Orrville offers small town atmosphere with many large city benefits.  We are blessed with a great mixture of business and industry.  A few of our major industries include:

  • The J. M. Smucker Company corporate offices and the largest jam and jelly processing plant in the world

  • The Schantz Organ Company ... the largest and most respected pipe organ company in the world

  • J. L. G., known worldwide for its production of material handlers

  • Smith Dairy Products Company with local and multi-state success in dairy products

  • Quality Castings Company, founded in 1933, they remain one of Ohio's leading producers of gray iron and ductile iron castings

  • The Will-Burt Company ... a world leader in the production of telescoping masts

  • United Industries fertilizer and planting soil production and warehouse site, shipping nationwide

  • And let's not forget Orrville's own publicly-owned utilities.

These are just a few.  There are several other successful industries making their mark in Orrville.  And, with one industrial park nearly filled and a second becoming a reality soon, we still have room for expansion.  A third industrial park is already in the planning stages.

Our downtown continues to improve with many remodeling and renovation projects currently under way.  Downtown remains anchored by two fine furniture stores, Brown's Furniture and Runion's Furniture.  Johnson's Hardware Company is a store rich in tradition and a complete hardware store.  Don't forget your breakfast at Mrs. J's restaurant, or how about an old-fashioned soda at Seifried's Drug Store.

The addition of Heartland Point several years ago has given Orrville citizens a great gathering place, as well as a cafe' and gift shop.

Finally, our City park system remains a strong part of our community.  Orr Park is a beautiful park with a great swimming pool.  The park is a wonderful meeting place, especially the week of July 4th.  Our fine fire department puts on its annual fireworks display then, which has become known as one of the best in the state.

It is my privilege and pleasure to serve as your Mayor.  Please stop in, my door will always be open.
ORRVILLE -- Grow Here, Learn Here, Work Here, and Live Here!

Duties and Responsibilities of the Mayor

The Mayor is elected for four-year terms.  Mayoral duties, as set forth by Article III of the Charter, are to exercise supervision and control of all departments and divisions of the city and to see that all laws, ordinances and resolutions are faithfully obeyed and enforced.  The Mayor is the recognized official and ceremonial head of city government.  The mayor is required to attend Council meetings, but has no vote.  He does, however, have veto power over every ordinance and resolution passed by City Council.  The President of Council is designated by Charter to be acting mayor during such a period when the Mayor is absent from the City or otherwise not accessible or temporarily unable to perform the duties.
